Super Bowl 58: America’s Game Redefines Sports Betting Records

February 15, 2024

Super Bowl 58 was a thrilling clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. But beyond the touchdowns and the electrifying halftime show, America’s Game 2023 left a lasting impact on the sports betting and iGaming industry in North America.

This year’s big game broke online betting records. FanDuel, one of the leading gaming operators, reported 2.5 million bets placed during Super Bowl 58—a platform record. In total, $307 million was wagered, marking a 40% increase from the previous year.

Canadian anti-fraud and compliance company GeoComply also confirmed a record-breaking moment: 14,750 transactions per second were recorded just before kickoff, nearly double the previous year’s high. Meanwhile, the Nevada Gaming Control Board shared that its 182 sportsbooks took in over $185 million in wagers, a new record and a $32 million year-over-year increase.

The excitement around America’s Game 2023 extended to the broader ecosystem—including payment processors. Paramount Commerce, Canada’s leading pay by bank provider for online gaming, recorded a 37% increase in transactions, hitting over 200,000 during Super Bowl 58. The total volume processed reached $36 million, and unique customer usage rose by 31%.

According to the American Gaming Association, 67.8 million Americans were expected to wager $23.1 billion on this year’s Super Bowl. While the match itself kept fans glued to their screens, many believe that pop icon Taylor Swift’s presence also helped fuel betting interest this season.

All signs point to America’s Game 2023 being a turning point for sports betting. The growth seen this year sets the stage for even bigger opportunities in 2025—for operators, affiliates, and the entire payments ecosystem.
